This Privacy Policy explains how VerifyCitation handles information when you visit the website or use citation-verification features. VerifyCitation is focused on checking whether existing academic references correspond to real sources and whether their bibliographic metadata is consistent.

VerifyCitation is operated by TINGYI JIANG under the ResearcherKit brand.

Information We May Process

VerifyCitation supports account access and one-time credit purchases. Depending on how the site is hosted and which features are enabled, the following information may be processed:

• Website request information: Hosting infrastructure may receive information such as IP address, browser type, device type, requested pages, and timestamps for security and reliable delivery.
• Preferences: Language and appearance preferences may be stored in cookies or local storage so the site can remember your choices.
• Account information: Registration and account management may process your name, email address, profile details, authentication identifiers, and account activity.
• Billing information: Creem processes payments as the merchant of record. VerifyCitation may receive the customer, order, product, amount, currency, invoice, and payment-status details needed to deliver credits and support the purchase. VerifyCitation does not receive or store complete payment-card details.
• Submitted references and results: Reference text, verification results, task identifiers, status, depth, and credit cost are processed to provide and recover verification tasks. Do not submit confidential, personal, or unpublished information that is not needed for verification.
• Messages you send: If you contact VerifyCitation, the contact details and message content you provide may be used to respond to you.

How Information May Be Used

Information may be used only as needed to provide and secure the website, remember preferences, respond to requests, diagnose failures, and improve citation-verification workflows.

Sharing

Information may be shared with hosting and infrastructure providers only as needed to operate the service. Submitted references are sent to CiteTrue as the verification processor so it can return source and metadata checks. Payment and billing information is processed by Creem as the merchant of record. Each provider's handling of information is also governed by its own privacy terms. Information may also be disclosed when required by law or necessary to protect the service and its users. VerifyCitation does not sell personal information.

Retention and Security

Reference text and returned verification results are retained in VerifyCitation for no more than 30 days, then removed from active task records. Limited account, task, status, timing, and credit-ledger records may be retained longer for security, billing integrity, dispute resolution, and legal obligations. Reasonable safeguards may be used, but no Internet service can guarantee absolute security.

Your Choices

You may avoid submitting reference text, delete an individual verification task, clear browser storage, or stop using the website. Deleting a task removes its stored reference text and results from VerifyCitation; deletion from CiteTrue is subject to CiteTrue's deletion process and applicable retention rules. Additional rights may apply based on your location and applicable law.

Changes

This policy may be updated as VerifyCitation adds or changes features. The updated date at the top of this page indicates the latest revision.
